DIY Rustic Holiday Gift Wrap

Updated: Jan 11

Wrapped Christmas gift on top of pine tree branches

Hello friends! The holiday season is here and if you have not already begun your holiday shopping, I suggest you stop what you're doing and get started! I'll wait.

OK, welcome back!

After my Black Friday shopping spree, my office became overrun with a pile of gifts for my friends and family. Needless to say, it was finally time to tackle gift wrapping.

Gift Wrapping Woes

I enjoy wrapping gifts because it's a nice break from the everyday hustle and can be surprisingly therapeutic. What takes me out of my gift-wrapping meditation is when the paper is uncooperative. You know the type I'm talking about. Your scissors don't glide across the paper in that satisfying way and instead get snagged midway through. Even if you manage to cut a perfect piece to wrap your gift, the paper might still rip with one wrong move. To top it off, the 'good' wrapping paper is pricey, and there never seems to be enough on each roll. So, I thought it would be fun to do things differently this year.

Why Make Your Gift Wrap?

This past Thanksgiving, I bought a 100 ft. roll of Kraft paper (for $14!) to line my tables in preparation for the feast. That's more paper than I know what to do with. With the holiday crafting spirit in my heart and "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" on my mind, I decided to make my own rustic holiday gift wrap using the leftover Kraft paper.

I've always loved the rustic aesthetic for handmade crafts because it's simple, utilizes natural elements, and welcomes imperfections. Moreover, it is more affordable and eco-friendly than other styles.

Adding personal touches to gifts instantly gives them sentimental value, and this DIY gift wrap provides an easy and beautiful way to customize presents for your loved ones! So, without further ado, here are the steps to create your very own rustic holiday gift wrap.

Materials:

Roll of tape, rubber stamps, raffia ribbon, ink pad, scissors, and gel pens on Kraft paper
  1. Kraft Paper

  2. Holiday Rubber Stamps

  3. Tape

  4. Scissors

  5. White and/or Metallic Gel Pens

  6. Metallic Ink Pad

  7. Raffia Ribbon

*I found all my materials on Amazon. Alternatively, you can check out your local craft store.

Instructions:

1. Wrap gift with Kraft paper. Kraft paper is a cheaper and heavy-duty alternative to regular wrapping paper.

2. Stamp your pattern onto gift wrap.

3. Tie a bow around gift with two pieces of raffia ribbon.

4. Label your gift.

5. Add some final touches with gel pens.

6. And voilà!

7. Optional: Add a natural touch for an elevated look.

This was a really fun project, and it didn't take much longer than wrapping a present using regular gift wrap. Buying Kraft paper provides a huge bang for your buck and can be used in a variety of ways. For this project, I used snowflake stamps, but in my search, I came across many other cute alternatives that you can use instead. I hope you have fun creating your wrapping paper, and I highly encourage sharing pictures of your unique designs!
